And with that he strode from the room and down the stairs toward his workshop, his long blue tailcoat whipping behind him and cane clicking sharply on the floor. ![]() "I am incredibly disappointed in both of you. Jarrett said something back, and while Leona's hearing wasn’t as sharp as Mum's, she still picked up something about "made me fight a dragon".ĭad huffed a humorless laugh, then glared down at Leona and Wolfe again. Their deaths would come early, it seemed.ĭad turned to Jarrett and muttered something to him. One of two members of the Pale Guard that Leona and Wolfe truly feared. And you won't be sneaking out of it, because Jarrett will be watching."Ĭaptain Jarrett. "Which is why," he continued, at a slightly lower volume that still carried through the otherwise-silent entrance hall, "you will both be cleaning this up. Dad almost never got this angry, but when he did it usually meant whatever punishment would come was one they would feel in their souls until the day they died.ĭad heaved a sigh. Leona slowly straightened and stood stock still, and she didn't have to look to know Wolfe was doing the same. "Do you have any idea how long this will take to clean? The staff have far better things to do with their time than clear out your mess!" "What in Pelor's name do you think you're doing?" Dad demanded. They froze, Wolfe with his hand in the bucket and Leona mid-dodge, and slowly turned in tandem to see their dad, standing next to Captain Jarrett in the doorway and looking more furious than they'd ever seen him. Good, Leona thought, pulling out more ammunition of her own. Wolfe growled in frustration, digging into his bucket. It struck his shoulder as he tried to dodge and droplets of residue speckled the floor. "Still better than you!" she spat as she hurled the clump at his chest. ![]() Leona snarled, foregoing the bucket and scooping mud off the floor. Wolfe shook his head as if to clean it like a wet bear. "Still think I'm useless?" Leona sneered. This time it hit Wolfe right in the face, and he yelped in surprise as he squeezed his eyes shut. She dove out of his reach, her bucket following the motion and slinging bits of mud onto the floor, and she pulled it back to her in time to grab more. He crashed into her and she felt a horrible wet seeping through her waistcoat as he smashed a handful of mud onto her back. She grinned and pumped her fist, then ducked as Wolfe lunged toward her. Leona took aim now at the bust by the wall where she knew his fat head was about to be- splat. The walls and carpet runner were quickly spattered with her missed shots, but it didn't take long for Wolfe's clothes to look much the same. Leona was quick, hurling clump after clump of mud at her brother, but Wolfe could dodge better than she thought. ![]() He reached into his own bucket, and all hell broke loose in the Whitestone Castle entrance hall. Leona's hand trembled with anger as she watched a clump of mud slowly slide down her brother's face, not even bothering to look as she reached into the bucket at her side for another handful.
